Fairtrade initiatives have been quite popular in recent years with many food, drink and clothing items now attributed to the fairtrade movement. Fairtrade goods are structured in a way that brands and companies are able to ensure that the supply network and workers are adequately paid for their hard work and not exploited as they have done in the past. Fairtrade clothing looks to not only improve the pay that workers in the clothing industry get but also improve their economic situation such as building medical centres, schools and churches to help improve their community. These issues have been made clear to us in TV programmes reporting on how a well known clothing brand has been exploiting workers and so many consumers are now more concerned ab0ut their shopping choices. But what clothes are there that are fairtrade? Is there a lot of variety? Well since most of the clothing you buy was made in these destinations that have been brought to our attention there’s a good chance that the fairtrade clothing you buy now will be similar if not identical to the clothing you have bought in the past. The only difference is that you now are helping put the money back where it belongs: in the hands of the workers. Initially most fair trade clothing was basic t shirts and sweatshirt items of clothing but over time as these ranges have risen in popularity there are now plenty of items of clothing and accessories that are fairtrade accredited from shoes to handbags. All of the items available as fairtrade clothing are made just the same as your other clothing and have the added bonus of knowing you’ve helped to improve the worker’s lives. Many fairtrade clothing items are clearly advertised as such and so you’ll see them clearly when in the shops on the high street. Some clothing shops will stock only fairtrade clothing or could market themselves as an organic clothing retailer which means they may only use organic cotton and organic dyes for their clothing which is another issue many people feel strongly about. So if you are interested in making smarter and more informed choices when it comes to fairtrade initiatives then you could try seeking out the fair trade companies on the high street and online to get a great deal on ethical clothing or fairtrade fashion.
