College Freshman Checklist

Whether you’re a concerned parent or a nervous college freshman, packing up for college can be a real pain. If you’re moving far from home, you don’t want to forget anything important. The transition from your parent’s house to college isn’t going to be easy, so you’ll want to make sure you’ve got all the comforts from home within reach. If you aren’t sure what to pack, take a look at my tips and suggestions below. Tip #1: Make sure to stock up on toiletries. You’ll want to have face wash, moisturizer, mouth wash, toothpaste, a toothbrush, makeup, shampoo, conditioner, lotion and toilet paper. If your dorm room has shared bathrooms, you’ll also want to make sure that you have a robe and flip flops to wear to and from the shower. You may also want to wear the flip flops in the shower to avoid athlete’s foot. Also don’t forget to have at least two towels. Tip #2: If your dorm allows you to bring furniture, then you’ll want to have a comfortable chair, a bed and a desk. Most dorm rooms are pretty small, so you may want to look at bunk beds with desk. That way you can optimize the small space in your room. Tip #3: Pack clothing for all types of weather. There is nothing worse than being under or over dressed for the weather. So make sure that you’ve got several pairs of shorts and jeans. You will also want sweater, sweatshirts, tee-shirts, workout clothes. When it comes to shoes, you’ll want to have at least on warm pair of boots and plenty of comfortable shoes you can just slip on before heading to class. Tip #4: Pack some entertainment. If you play video games, bring your gaming console and games. Also bring a television, DVD player and plenty of movies. Dorm life can be a little dull, especially at first when you don’t have many friends to hangout with, so plan ahead for these moments. Start packing at least a few weeks in advance and you’ll have a smooth transition into dorm living. Just relax and have fun. This is the beginning of a whole new chapter in your life and you’re going to love all of your new found freedom.
